What do you get when you give metallic spray paint to a Southern Belle?
After Thanksgiving you can spot ladies all over town with clippers in one hand and a can of Krylon in the other, searching, searching, searching for the perfect adornment for their fireplace mantels or tree. We know how to fight squirrels for the best pinecones and sneak through the neighbor's backyard for the best magnolia leaves. All while wearing pearls.
Fairhope's Ace Hardware knows to stock up on glittery paint supplies in December. Around mid-November, a big truck backs up to the store and out come cases of metallic silver, gold, and copper paint. This year, the excitement stems from a new paint that turns regular old glass jars into mercury glass! Be still my heart!

In the South, we love a good committee, and don't you know, this year, I have the cream of the crop assignment - the Altar Guild, which gets to decorate the entire church! Hello 18 foot tall Christmas tree! It's a much better gig than the year I was assigned to scrape gum off the bottom of the pews. (They thought the gum was from my children, but teeth marks proved otherwise).
So, after helping adorn our church with glittery bows, wreaths, candles, and the Chrismon Tree, we all stood back and agreed that Dolly Parton would feel welcome in our shimmering sanctuary. More is more at Christmas. You can never have too many bows or too much sparkle. It's for the Baby Jesus, and you know how babies love sparkly things!
Here's a little something I threw together this year for my dining room chandelier. It's difficult to tell from this photo, but the twigs are silvery and have big glittery snowflakes dangling off the tips. It reaches up to the 12 foot ceiling.
We are still enjoying weather in the 70's, but indoors, it's a winter wonderland.
Thanks to a little ole' can of paint.
