Getting Ready

This is a very busy week in Fairhope.  The Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce's 61st Annual Arts and Crafts Festival will take place this coming Friday through Sunday, March 15th - 17th.  Our 17,000  residents welcome over 300,000 happy visitors.  The 230 artists come from all over the nation to create one of the most well respected art shows in the United States.

Artists and vendors begin pulling into town Tuesday, with their R.V.'s full of beautiful art. Restaurants that are usually full anyway, have lines out the door. Downtown stores are full, and there's a party atmosphere in the air.

Adding to the excitement, The Eastern Shore Art Center will simultaneously host their Outdoor Art Show, which features it's own juried selection of artists from the area. The more, the merrier.

The Spring Fever Chase 10K and 2 mile fun run will take place Saturday morning, March 16th. I'll shop for artwork. You do the running.

Later this week, I'll show you some of the action going on behind the scenes and a few of the crowd favorites - and here's a hint . . . some of the favorite things at the festival have nothing to do with art!

Make plans now to join the fun!

This post gives me a little anxiety because my former job was director of this kind of event! Lots of work and stress for those behind the scenes - but fun to attend :-)

Sounds wonderful; how's the parking?

There are shuttle busses that run back and forth from Piggly Wiggly and Big Lots parking lots on Hwy 98 (Greeno) and only charge $1. You can always try the parking garage on Church Street. Sometimes Fairhope United Methodist has $5 parking with the money going towards Mission Projects.

Many of us probably take our surroundings for granted, such as your photograph of the beautiful Fairhope sign. Your blog does a wonderful job of highlighting the everyday scenery. Wish I could come to the festival!
