Small town Friday night football is a time honored tradition around here as it is in many cities throughout the South. The pageantry and dedication of the students bring out big crowds who don't necessarily have children attending the school. It's just a source of civic pride and a social event that we all love.
The newest addition to the pageantry is this giant inflatable Pirate that serves as a tunnel for the team to run through and make their triumphant entry onto the field. This is major excitement around here - MAJOR.
Last week's game was a preseason event, so it was more of a dress rehearsal - except the band didn't "dress." Instead, the 195 member Pirate Band chose to march casual without the formal uniforms.
They still looked and sounded AWESOME.
And it was also a chance for the color guard to express themselves with individual footwear.
So cute. I love the bright colors!
The cheerleaders were snappy and ready to go.
And the Pirate ship . . .
Well, if you are coming to a Fairhope High School football game - Paw Paw, take your calm pills before you get here, because when that cannon goes off - BOOM! It can be heard for several miles around the stadium. And if you are actually in the stadium, even if you know it's coming . . .
Mercy Daisy! Major heart palpitations!
I've seen opposing teams who weren't familiar with the ship's cannon
literally hit the ground when the BOOM went off.
Bless their hearts.
The Pirate team in action.
Good luck to all the hometown high school kids throughout America,
and special good wishes to our dear Fairhope Alabama Pirates!
